“לרחף בין שאול לארץ” 2022
מדיה: רימון, חוט, אור, מים וצלחת לווין שנמצאה כגרוטאה על ידי האמנית; הופכה ליצירת אמנות על ידי בנה איתמר מנדס-פלור במסגרת תערוכתו בבורות המים בבית הנסן; וניכסה כאן מחדש, לקלוט אותות מהעולם למטה.
לאחר שפרספונה נחטפה על ידי האדס, אדון השאול, אמה דמטר הייתה חסרת נחמה. בצערה העמוק, דמטר, אלת הקציר, גרמה לכל צמח שגדל על פני כדור הארץ למות, ואנשים גוועו ברעב בכל מקום. בהתערבותו של זאוס, האדס הסכים לבסוף לתת לפרספונה לחזור לאמה, אך לפני שפרספונה עזבה את העולם התחתון, הוא פיתה את אישתו עם רימון (תפוח-רימון בשפות רבות). פרספונה אכלה 6 זרעי רימון, מה שהבטיח שהיא תצטרך לבלות 6 חודשים בשנה עם האדס, כמלכת השאול, בעודה חוזרת לאדמה בכל אביב, ומאפשרת לצמחים ולפרחים לצמוח שוב.

Media: pomegranate, string, light, water, and satellite dish found as scrap by the artist; turned into an artwork by her son Itamar Mendes-Flohr as part of his exhibit at the Hansen House cisterns; and reappropriated here, to pick up signals from the world below.
After Persephone was abducted by Hades, Lord of the Netherworld, her mother Demeter was inconsolable. In her profound grief, Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest, caused every single plant that grew on earth to die, and people were starving everywhere. With Zeus’ intervention, Hades finally agreed to let Persephone return to her mother, yet before Persephone left the Netherworld, he tempted his wife with a pomegranate (literally: an apple-grenade). Persephone ate 6 pomegranate seeds, which assured that she would have to spend 6 months of the year with Hades, as Queen of the Netherworld, while returning to earth each spring, allowing the plants and flowers to grow again.
