Photography & Words is a site that presents the encounter between photography and writing by artist and writer Rita Mendes-Flohr. The photographs, in warm, full colors and sometimes in unusual, mysterious light, were taken while hiking in the deserts of Israel, and traveling off the beaten track – in Jordan’s canyon streams, India’s Gujarat state, and while trekking in Nepal. The texts (as the photographs) explore the concept of liminal space, the in-between, the borderlands, to which the photographs refer.
